Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2025

StatMap does not collect personal data, does not require registration, and does not run advertising. We collect anonymous access logs to keep the service running, and we store a single browser value to remember your theme preference.

1. Who we are

StatMap (statmap.ch) is an independent, non-commercial project run as a personal website. For privacy questions, contact us at [email protected].

2. What we collect

Access logs

Our web server automatically records standard HTTP access logs, which include the requesting IP address, browser type, referring page, timestamp, and the page requested. Logs are kept for up to 14 days for security and error-diagnosis purposes and are then deleted. We do not link logs to individual identities or use them for anything beyond aggregate traffic counts.

Theme preference (local storage)

We store a single key in your browser's localStorage to remember whether you prefer dark or light mode. This value never leaves your device and is never sent to our servers. (theme in localStorage)

3. What we do not do

  • - We do not use analytics services (Google Analytics, Matomo, or similar).
  • - We do not display advertising or sell advertising space.
  • - We do not share any data with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • - We do not require or store user accounts or passwords.
  • - We do not process payment data of any kind.

4. Third-party services

Map tiles shown on StatMap are loaded from the OpenStreetMap tile infrastructure. When your browser fetches a tile, your IP address is sent to that server. OpenStreetMap's own privacy policy applies. osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.

5. Your rights (GDPR / nDSG)

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nDSG), you have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you. Because we keep only anonymous server logs for 14 days and have no user accounts, there is usually no personal data to act on. If you have any concerns, email us at [email protected].

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Continued use of StatMap after changes means you accept the updated policy.
